Before the civil war African Americans were denied to any form of learning such as reading and writing. So when the civil war ended and Afrian Americans got there so called freedom they were now aloud to open school houses an such places to gain higher knowledge mostly based out of churches or from home.The school houses that were established were threw the governments help getting African American life togather. The school houses that were opened were mostly taught by abolitionists. These abolitionists had mostly been white women.
The education of blacks weren't as good as of the whites but it was much better than what they had. The blacks were so called moving up in the country but the way they were treated the same by the KKK and other hate groups. School houses were burned down blacks were lycnhed for just trying to better themselves. Which was a horrible situation for blacks to be in like blacks couldn't win for losing. The Bad part about this is blacks went through all that back then just to learn and now that alot of black students get kicked out of school many others just think its pointless.
Today most students hate school and just go to hang out or to just make parents happy like they attend school but for all the wrong reason. I mean our ancestors did all that fighting for us to have a better education and look at how we repay them. School is one of the most important things in the world like they always say knowledge is power. I mean we have a black man as a canidate for president all these trails and tribulations that blacks have been through to gain the right just to be able to learn on the same level as whites. Today students take school as a joke specially in America blacks americans for the most part.
It is a shame that blacks in this country could care less about school. If i was to ask ten black kids i know why they come to school at four would say just to get out the house three would say to make my peoples (family) happy i would get two i dont knows and maybe one person to say i come to school to learn. Things like this makes our country a pittiful place to be. We claim to be the best country in the world but we hate to do the asy things like go to school in developing nations education is the important thing in the world its kids who wake up three hours early to make it to school on time. Where "we the best country in the world" have kids who live right across the street from school late everyday.
It is truly and deeply sad that after all our people went through we cant even go to school everyday and be proud that we can even attend. Its a shame how our people and country has made a turn for the worst. School creates oppertunites thats why i go it opens doors for me to become something great. You never kno what could happen maybe im the next Obama

I dont know why the kkk tried to burn down school as soon as African Americans started to learn. I also agree that people take school as a joke instead of being serious about their education. I dont agree that all black people do not take school seriousally because i know white people that think that is a joke also. I think it has to do with the parents more then the students. If the parents cared more then the students would do better.
That was pretty true about the taking school for granted. But I also agree with Jack its not all black kids and it also has something to do with the parents alot of the time. And you could be the next Obama.
This blog was very interesting. I read how the KKK tried to burn schools, were African Americans were learning. And also how the US tried to withhold, the African American children from learning. It reminds of a saying that “Knowledge is Power”. I am confident the Americans believed that was true, and since they did not want blacks to have power. They tried to remove the opportunity for them to get power by removing the education to African Americans.
i really dont quite get that the kkk would try to burn down the skools. i mean they wanted seperate schools for kids the whole time so why are they beinjg stupid now?
